32 bars in 32 bars

Mark Morand is a composer and musician from Australia, and the creator of 32 Bars in 32 Bars.

The vision for this project is to compose 32 brand new jazz standards, and perform and record the songs live in 32 different bars.

In the process we’ll showcase many of Melbourne’s jazz musicians, and many fabulous Melbourne bars.

The inspiration for this project is the “Great American Songbook” – songs written between the 1920s and the 1950s for Broadway, Hollywood and musical theatre, which subsequently became part of the collection of songs known as “jazz standards”.

These songs were often written in what musicians call “32 bar” form.
